Car Spotting – Porsche Macan

I have to say that ever since we added a MINI Paceman to our gang both myself and Mrs P have really warmed to the SUV thing. We both like the semi command driving position and while the Paceman doesn’t handle like our other MINIs it does nonetheless handle ok on its sport suspension. The overall effect is a fun car that has been great on the long haul trip we are on now from England down to St Tropez.

This Porsche Macan caught our eye as a good looker that also just happens to go a bit and handle well. I can see why this sector is so popular.

Pistonheads Sunday Service – Morgan Factory April 2015

DSCF8646

Sunday the 19th April saw Pistonheads hold their Sunday Service at the Morgan factory here in Malvern. 2015 has been a slow year here for us at AuroBeast in terms of car events and one was long overdue so I gave my Son-in-Law Carl (Fandango) a shout and we took the Opel GT along to show his face.

This event really is a cracker, I went last year and loved it and was really keen to get Carl to take a look especially as a short factory tour is included in the event courtesy of Morgan. Again the event was a cracker. First there was a great turn out from Pistonheads which gave us a chance to look at the Auto porn that they had brought along. Secondly, Morgan bring in great caterers who charge very reasonable prices for their teas, coffees and food. Add to this a Morgan factory tour, a look round the Morgan Museum and the gift shop and for a tenner a chance to have a ride in a Morgan.

I took this opportunity myself and was duly whisked along the leafy lanes of Malvern by a very friendly Morgan employee in a super sexy Morgan 4/4 Sport. The bonnet seemed to stretch for about a mile in front of us and it truly is an awesome sight looking along that long bonnet as the car gets gunned along a long straight country road. I was smitten with Morgans before this but now…

In short then a brilliant event made perfect by the fine weather. The Pistonhead cars add something wonderful too and it gave us a chance to look at some rare and beautiful cars and secretly I was pleased to see that the Opel GT attracted his fair share of admirers too.  Anyway here are a few  cars that caught my eye.

I have always liked Muscle cars, American Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros or Japanese muscle cars for that matter. This Camaro in black then just jumped out and socked me in the mouth as I walked past. Loved it!

Next up was this beautiful Triumph GT6. I love classic cars – much of why we loved our weekend at the Mille Miglia. I am totally sucked into the whole nostalgia thing and grab my fix of the Classic Car Show every Thursday night without fail. This example epitomised all I love in them and to my eyes it is as cool a car to be seen stepping into as you could ever hope to find. Ok I know it is not a Bond car but I just know I’d start calling my wife Moneypenny as we drove along in this beauty!

Back to muscle cars and let’s give the Japanese a nod with this stunning Nissan GTR.. If I was 22 and female I’d say “OMG, OMG it’s Oh My God! ” but I’m not I’m 55 and sensible so I’d say, “OMG, OMG it’s Oh My God! “

And back to the Classics. Debadged but methinks a Porsche 911 Turbo whale tail. This is Mrs P’s dream car (well maybe in Guard’s Red) and yes firing one of these up in the morning I would be living the dream. So let’s be frank there were lots of gorgeous cars, gorgeous Morgans and I spent the morning in dreamland. To be honest I do all the time because it ain’t such a bad place to be and at the end of the morning when I cranked the Opel GT I didn’t feel hard done to at all! Thanks Pistonheads and Morgan for a smashing morning.

Cars and The Importance of Dreams

Le Mans

We have a dream, it’s a wild dream, in our case we have this dream because we know that life is not forever. Lady P is a believer in a kind of fate, a set of circumstances that come together to make things happen. This has been the case with so many of the big things in our life. Timing, opportunity, a real sense of it is meant to be. Lady P has always wanted me to have a classic Porsche but now she fancies a new one to share. A silly dream, beyond our pay packets, but it doesn’t stop the dream. Then as you nourish the dream, sometimes if it is meant to be, things happen, they conspire, to tell you that you are on the right path. Poppycock maybe, but it is so often the case, that fate plays a card, to point the way. A bargain offer at the Photo Show on a Fuji X-M1 was an example of this just a few weeks back. Getting our Opel GT had a fate about it. Walking into the first apartment we viewed in France and it being the one was fate. Getting a watch , or it passing by – there is a fate element to it.
So here we are dreaming of a Porsche, nourishing the dream and then bits of news emerge.
First Dick Lovett announce a new Porsche retail centre at Tewkesbury, half a mile from where I work.
Then, Porsche and Le Mans team up, and we love Le Mans and are planning to be there again this year.
French Porsche Experience Centre
The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the German firm Porsche, which is making its comeback at Le Mans this year in an attempt to add to its victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours, will open the only Porsche Experience Center in France in 2015. The contract was officially signed on Wednesday 12th March at Le Mans. You can read the full story here on ACO.
So, let’s carry on teasing and nurturing our dream…

Car Of The Week – Porsche 911

Porsche 911

We were at the recent Avenue Driver’s Club Breakfast Meet in Bristol, which we have already reported on. But on consideration, Mrs Peanut loved these two photos of the classic whale tail 911 widowmaker, so we had to make this car our Car of The Week. I mean just look at it. I cannot think of a more stylish car for a gentleman to drive, this is just divine.

Car Of The Week – Porsche 911 Targa

Targa 5

The design of the new Porsche 911 Targa, returns to the traditional Targa layout of 911s of bygone days. In truth, the new roof design is very similar to the original 911 Targa from the 1960’s. The new Targa roof sees a removable section above the cabin with a large B-pillar and fixed rear window then installed. OK so it doesn’t give you the full outdoor experience of a convertible,  but nonetheless the new Targa will certainly prove very popular.

Porsche Cayman S or a Nissan 370Z or a Toyota GT86?

Mrs P dreams about cars as much as the best petrolhead does. A Cayman S has long been her fantasy car but recently a bright yellow Nissan 370Z caught her eye and brought the Nissan to her attention, while she had clocked the Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ as far back as when we went to the 2012 Paris Motor show. A recent breakfast club meet at RAF Cosford saw all three of these cars on display, so the fantasy game of which one to choose was replayed. A trawl on the interweb found the video below which looked at all three cars and it made for an interesting watch. Would the old favourite the Porsche be usurped by the temptations of the Nissan 370Z or the new pretender on the block the Toyota GT86?

It sure makes this video worth a watch.
