Bacon Sarnie MINI Meet, The Mill Pond Castlemorton 3rd March 2013
It has taken a while for the car events to get going for us in 2013 but finally we have the first one under our belt, a Sunday morning meet for a bacon sandwich by the side of the Mill Pond at Golden valley, Castlemorton.
We arrived at the spot to find three other MINIs already assembled and it was very gratifying to see such enthusiasm, which shows how much these sort of things are missed from our lives. We erected the gazebo and our makeshift kitchen, started boiling the kettle, frying the bacon and began to catch up with new friends and old. Half an hour in and Beastie had to leave for a while to bring Miffy back into the fold as she had gone astray on the other side of the hills and couldn’t find us. In truth it just gave him an excuse to blast around the hills in a JCW! Soon all the gossiping and chit chat was done and after having our fill of bacon baps we had got quite cold standing around on damp grass and it was decided to have a bit of a walk to get the circulation going again.
The walk turned out to be a bit muddier then we had anticipated but it made it more interesting!
After an hour of walking and back at the cars it then seemed a perfect time for a pub lunch, which involved a very short drive to the Robin Hood where we all parked up outside and took the place over. With a wood-burning stove and some Abbott Ale the world took on a more cosy feel and we discussed future days out – both those already planned and those yet to be created, at which point the landlord told us he was expecting a gathering of Mini Mokes in a few weeks who would be camping behind the pub.
So it looks like we have found the venue for this year’s Malvern Campathon, something we have wanted to do for a while, but which circumstances have not favoured. A date will be announced shortly, but the wheels are in motion. Watch this space!
We were hoping it would be a misty morning with the sun just burning off the early morning haze as we met up, but sadly the sun did not put in an appearance for us all day. But it was nevertheless a great day, and a good start to a new year of MINI adventures. Click the photos for a slideshow from the day.
